What certain symbols on your iPhone really mean

The more you know!

Some of the mysterious symbols that pop up on your iPhone are now being revealed, and they have more meaning behind them than what one may think.

If you’ve ever taken a look at your weather app and spotted a tiny white dot on that day’s temperature index bar, there’s a reason for that — it is meant to show where the current temperature is falling on the scale, according to The Sun.

The little white dot is also used to show where the UV index lies for the day, as well as the sunset times.

So, for example, if the high for the day is supposed to be 90 degrees, and the white dot is at the end of the scale, it means the temperature has reached the hottest point for the day.

The feature was introduced in 2021, when Apple released iOS 15.

There are also some other symbols you might not be aware of — like the orange dot on top of your screen, near where your battery life and wifi icons are located.

According to Apple themselves, if the orange dot is present, it means that your microphone is being used, either by your phone or another app in the background.

And, if there’s a green dot instead of an orange one, it indicates that your camera or both your camera and microphone are being used by an app on your smartphone.

They also note that if the time on your phone is surrounded by a different colored bubble, there’s meaning to that as well — if it’s blue, it means your phone is using screen mirroring, and if it’s red, it means your phone is recording.

And, finally, a green bubble indicates that you are taking a phone call or using a personal hotspot, while a purple bubble means that your iPhone is using SharePlay to connect in the FaceTime app.

If you want to learn more about which apps are using these features on your phone, you can easily go into your iPhones control center find out, according to The Daily Mail.

However, these iPhone features aren’t the only tech secrets that have been revealed in recent months.

In November 2022, popular messaging app WhatsApp rolled out a feature allowing you to send messages to yourself in the application on mobile devices.

The new feature allows you to simply start a new chat, and your own number should pop up at the top of your list of contacts with the option to “message yourself.”

And, did you know that your iPhone even has something called “sound recognition?”

This means that your iPhone can alert you to certain sounds, like a dog barking.

If you want to access this, simply go to your settings, click “accessibility,” and then, “sound recognition.”

You can enable it by hitting the toggle to the right, and then tap “sounds” to turn on what you would like your phone to recognize.
